CROWS BLOG: GUTTED

Hi all,

A very disappointed manager doing this blog on Saturday night no long after the game had finished. A game where we certainly didn’t play to our best but after being in the lead a couple of times then it’s really a case of losing 2 points rather than gaining one.

At this point I must compliment Stourbridge, our visitors, they pushed throughout and probably over the duration of the game deserved to get at least something out of the tie. As I said the fact that we were leading for most of the match makes it even more disappointing but also because the quality of our goals alone probably gave us the edge.

But let’s keep it positive for a while, the goals we scored, one from Jarid Robson which was a brilliant header, then Jarid again got brought down for a definite penalty, which was nicely put away by Matt Bateman. The best goal however was our last effort – a fantastic debut goal by Kian Harness. Kian started the move himself with a good turn in the middle of the park. He then laid it out to Jarid who put in a brilliant cross. Kian didn’t rest on the turn and pass but got himself into the penalty area, to make sure he got his head on the cross, executing a brilliant debut goal.

I was really pleased with the goals but obviously there was a downside to the proceedings yesterday. I didn’t feel that Stourbridge were a particular threat but as said previously they did keep pushing. However, our defensive frailties come to the fore and although good efforts on their part, they were at best sloppy from us and enabled our visitors to get back into things. No doubt frustrating but I suppose we could look at the amount of ‘experience’ we had missing yesterday and this could have been the reason we didn’t see the game out.

Hopefully for the young ones this was a vital lesson learned and if nothing else if they have learned to ‘manage the game’ and at times keep the ball and not concede then we can make a stride forward.

Just a note on our injuries… unfortunately, it seems like James Brighton will be out for a while – some of you may have noticed him wearing a le brace yesterday. He has a very similar injury to Ed Asafu-Adjaye and so it will be a while before either of them will be back playing. Jay Rolfe and Isa Rotimi are both still some weeks away but hopefully, Carl Mensah and Spyros Mentis could be up for selection come Monday’s trip to Bedford Town. The only addition to the injury list yesterday was on-trial fullback, Shaun Keane. He has hurt his hip flexor so he is likely to also be unavailable Monday.

So, not all good news to report but it’s still early days. The League will settle down soon and we just need the consistency to get 3 points. I’m confident that with a few tweaks we’ll get there!

Keep the faith guys!
