Funding boost for Royston Town Women announced

Royston Town FC is delighted to announce that from the 2023/24 season, we will be introducing a dedicated budget for our women’s first team. We feel that this is a huge step in recognising the direction, importance, and growing stature of women’s football. We also believe that our renewed commitment demonstrates the ambition of our club to further the women’s game within Royston and the surrounding area.

As a community club inspiring the next generation of male and female footballers is one of our core philosophies. We want to provide our women’s players with the same opportunities that our men’s first team receive, and we believe that the introduction of a dedicated budget allows them to do this. The Women’s first team will continue to play their home matches at Garden Walk, use the same training facilities, have access to the same medical facilities and use of analytical technology as the Men’s First team.

Attendances at our Women’s games this season have been a huge success this season and our average home attendance is comfortably more than 100. We hope to grow this further still as we continue our progress up the pyramid.

This commitment clearly demonstrates the Board and club’s support of our women’s first team which will help us progress as a club and help deliver one of our ambitions of being a Women’s National League club.

""

Regarding the increased investment Women’s First Team Manager Lewis Endacott said,

“I’m absolutely delighted that the Club have further recognised the importance of our women’s team and women’s football in general. We’ve made progress previously, albeit in small but really important steps, however, this is a really significant one. It’s something that we’re really excited about and grateful for.

In recent years the main way we’ve been able to attract or retain players is by them having a love for the club or players who have heard good things about us through word of mouth. Hopefully now this investment will help us build a squad that ultimately achieves the promotion we all want. It also sends a great message to the community itself, both locally and to the wider women’s football community, that this club knows the value and importance of women’s football”

Royston Town Chairman Steve Jackson stated

“We’re pleased to be able to announce this further investment for our women’s team as we continually look to support women’s football in Royston. The club has a long-held ambition of having Royston Town Women compete in the Women’s National League. Obviously, since the success of the Lionesses at Euro ’22 it’s clear that we are entering a new and exciting era of women’s football and it’s one that we as a club want to be a part of. Women’s football has a major role to play in both the club and the sport’s growth, both in the short and long-term, and here at Royston Town Football Club it can help us bring in new audiences.”

Club President Alan Barlow commented,

“I’m delighted that we as a board were able to support this increased investment in the women’s team. This is a great step forward and one that I’m particularly proud to support. This is particularly timely as it marks 25 years of Royston Town Women FC. We have come a long way since 1998 when the side was formed and 15 years since they were fully incorporated into the club. Back then I fought hard for the team to be playing under the RTFC banner. Our goal then, as it is now, was to encourage more local women and girls to participate in the game we love and for the team to play at the highest level possible. We have already seen the evidence of a clear pathway for young players with an increasing number of talented Royston Town Youth girls making their debuts for the Women’s first team this season. With the ever-increasing profile of Women’s football and participation levels at an all-time high, it’s clear that now is the time to invest more.”

""

Club Captain Amy Cooper said,

“Speaking on behalf of myself and the squad we are thrilled that the club is matching our ambition. We have come so far in my time at the club and this season has really seen us grow and this commitment from the club has come at the perfect time. We are seeing our attendances grow and this season we’ve broken our attendance record 3 times! The league is getting stronger every year, and this will help us compete to ensure we get promoted to the National League as quickly as we possibly can.”

If you are interested in helping us achieve our objectives then we are always grateful for any support, financial, volunteering or otherwise, from local, national and international companies who wish to align and affiliate themselves to our ‘Football For All’ ethos and ambition. We have a wide number of sponsorship opportunities available to welcome you into the ever-expanding Royston Town football family, whilst also providing you with a wide range of exposure to promote and grow your business or organisation.
